Walterboro Introduces New K-9 Teams
(Walterboro, S.C.) – The Walterboro Police Department recently introduced 2 new members to the force. The new K-9 officers named Papi and Hydro, recently completed certification with their handlers through the American Society of Canine Trainers (A.S.C.T.) Basic Handler School in Virginia. The new recruits will enable the department to expand its already established K-9 unit by providing each patrol shift with a certified team. Both teams specialize in narcotics detection and tracking and will also actively be performing Interdiction operations on I-95 to deter drug trafficking through city limits.
As these new K-9 teams take to the streets, the Walterboro Police Department will be holding a ceremony to retire K-9 Gipsi. Gipsi, has served with the agency for the past 7 years and will live out the rest of her life with her handler, Cpl Hantz.
