Agency Spotlight: Kentucky State Police

(Frankfort, KY) – Since 1948, The Kentucky State Police has been proudly serving the Commonwealth. The Thin Gray Line has a rich history and tradition that has comprised a wide range of iconic cruisers patrolling the Blue Grass State. From the 1949 Ford to its 2024 Mustang, Kentucky has made it a mission to preserve its history by maintaining a vehicle from each era within its fleet. SCPoliceCruisers had the opportunity to take a first hand look at some of these classics and capture some hi-res photos to share. It goes without saying that the photos do not do these rides justice.

Like most agencies across the country, the Kentucky State Police continues to operate a diverse fleet of cruisers as manufacturers retool pursuit rated vehicles. The latest additions include the Chevrolet Tahoe and Dodge Durango which can now be seen patrolling roadways across the commonwealth. Though the agency operates a new and modern fleet, the line-up of classics continues to be a hit across the state. This special fleet assigned to the Public Affairs Commander, is used to boost recruitment, enhance community engagement, and create meaningful connections with the motoring public. Not only is this fleet often featured in submissions to the American Association of State Trooper calendar competition, but they’re also regularly displayed locally in parades and car shows. To our knowledge, Kentucky is one of the few states to actually maintain and display a historic patrol fleet.

We’d like to extend a very big THANK YOU to our friends at the Kentucky State Police for providing us with unprecedented access to their iconic fleet. To view more cruisers from the Bluegrass State, please visit the Kentucky portion of the website by clicking here
