Boone Police Department's Patch
(Boone, N.C.) – Once again, the SCPoliceCruisers Team is on the road. Our visit takes us to the picturesque High Country of North Carolina, specifically the Town of Boone. Home to Appalachian State University and some wonderful “cooler” temperatures in the middle of the summer, Boone features mountain views at every turn. Those mountain views were the inspiration for the Boone Police Department’s newest vehicle design, which certainly captured our attention.
Last year the Boone Police Department began looking at updating their vehicle decals. They wanted something that would engage the community, be approachable to citizens as well as visitors, and something more unique than the standard police vehicle decals. After looking at some 50 different options, the police department landed on a unique mountain design. With the help of a current police officer’s father, the new mountain design was born. This design, which was unveiled at the Boone Christmas Parade, depicts what the Town of Boone is all about – unspoiled mountain beauty.
Diving into the finer details of their new graphics package, one may notice the unique patch on the front fender. Pictured prominently on the patch, Daniel Boone and his hunting dogs, who he is rumored to never travel without. As we move down to the central decal itself, one may notice a series of stars below the word “Police.” These pay homage to the ultimate sacrifice of local officers who have lost their life in Watauga County.
Perhaps the most unique part of these new decals might be the one that is least visible. Recently, the Boone Police Department’s Community Resource Officer obtained permission to add a small Sasquatch decal into the mountains on each patrol vehicle. A very keen eye might notice the ever-elusive Sasquatch walking up those mountains. This small decal is currently being added to vehicles across the fleet as of our recent visit. We think this might be as close as we will get to actually seeing Sasquatch, but what a cool way to tie local folklore into an already awesome graphics package.
